Christopher King

Christopher J. King is an academic administrator, associate professor and strategist, who is board certified in health care management. With expertise at the intersection of institutional racism, social determinants of health and health care administration, he envisions a world in which health status cannot be predicted by race, social class or place of residence.

As Chair of the Department of Health Systems Administration, Christopher provides visionary leadership of the department which houses a BS in Healthcare Policy and Management and an MS in Health Systems Administration. As an associate professor, he teaches and creates curricula that bridge the gap between health care and public health.

Prior to joining Georgetown University, King served as the first Assistant Vice President of Community Health for MedStar Health where he established a regional community health strategy. Prior to his work with MedStar Health, he served as a senior leader for Greater Baden Medical Services, Inc., a Federally Qualified Health Center in southern Maryland. In this capacity, he managed federal grants, oversaw support services and secured more than $7 million in public and private grants to promote health equity and improve the health of vulnerable and underserved populations. As former Chairman of the Consumer Health Foundation Board of Directors, he spearheaded regional efforts to heighten awareness of the relationship between systemic racism and population health.

Christopher’s research investigations and thought leadership have been published in esteemed peer-reviewed journals. His most recent publication, Health Disparities in the Black Community: An Imperative for Racial Equity in the District of Columbia, is a call to action for the city. Christopher is a commissioner for the D.C. Commission for Health Equity and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Christopher attained a PhD in Health Services Administration with a focus on vulnerable populations from the University of Maryland College Park.
